Product Info
Denamarin Tabs is a liver supplement available in a formula for cats and dogs. There are three varieties of the product, each containing 30 tablets; Cats/Small Dogs, Medium Dogs, and Large Dogs.
What the product cures
Denamarin Tabs work by increasing s-adenosylmethionine and glutathione levels in the body, which are both important for maintaining liver health and function, as well as promoting detoxification activity. Conditions in pets that Denamarin is particularly beneficial for include; liver disease, liver failure, and liver toxicity.
Pet Symptoms
Liver cirrhosis is a condition characterized by irreversible liver damage that resulted as a consequence to disease and other factors causing harm to the organ. Some of the common causes of cirrhosis in pets include; infection of the liver caused by bacteria or a virus (such as leptospirosis or heartworm), toxicity caused by drugs or other harmful substances, cancer, circulatory problems, and metabolic disorders.
Liver disease in dogs and cats can also be idiopathic, meaning that there is no known cause. Experts have been unable to figure out the cause of this type of liver disease, which also eventually causes cirrhosis. In some cases, the severity of the disease may be so great, that finding the exact cause is often very challenging. This is one example of when liver cirrhosis may be diagnosed, as all that may be known is that the liver is damaged, but not why. In other words, liver cirrhosis means that the organ is harmed to the point that tissue scarring develops, and that its ability to function normally is beginning to decline.
Liver cirrhosis symptoms are quite similar to those of liver disease and include; jaundice (yellowing of the skin and white of the eyes), decreased appetite, gastrointestinal problems (diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, etc.) due to the body's inability to absorb and properly process essential nutrients, weakness, lethargy, accumulation of fluid in the abdomen causing bloat, orange colored urine, and chalky/gray stools due to increased toxin levels in the body.
Pets are usually in the late stages of liver disease when hepatic cirrhosis is diagnosed, which means there isn't much a veterinarian can do to treat the problem. Even if the cause is known, there is no treatment available to undo the damage that has already been done. However, a special diet, supplements, and medication for treating the symptoms associated with the disease can be helpful in improving quality of life and may even increase life expectancy in affected pets.
