PhyCox Soft Chews (120 ct)

Since animals are unable to verbalize their painful sensations, it is important to recognize subtle signs of pain connected with osteoarthritis and post-operative discomfort. Animals in pain display various changes of their behavior; from mild depression to severe lethargy accompanied with the loss of appetite and even aggression. Animals with painful joints are often reluctant to perform some usual everyday activities such as climbing the stairs or jumping on the couch. They will sometimes display difficulties sitting, rising or squatting. Dogs experiencing pain will not be eager to exercise. They often display the stiffness after physical activity. The animals are likely to spare the limbs affected with osteoarthritis or after painful operative procedures. They can display different degrees of lameness depending on the degree of pain and/or the arthritic changes. Upon detailed examination of the dog, it becomes clear that the painful areas are often inflamed (swollen, warm, red).

PET AILMENTS
One of the most common sources of chronic pain in companion animal veterinary medicine is osteoarthritis. It is a degenerative, chronic and progressive disease of joints connected with genetic predispositions, injuries and old age. Osteoarthritis in dogs most commonly affects knees, hips, ankles and elbows.

RELATIVE INFO ON BREEDS MOST ASSOCIATED WITH THIS AILMENT
Osteoarthritis often affects large dog breeds, such as St. Bernard, Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd, Great Dane, Mastiff or Rottweiler. Overweight dogs are prone to developing osteoarthritis. It is also the condition commonly expected to be diagnosed in older animals, connected with the natural process of aging.

HOW IT WORKS
Previcox is firocoxib, a non-steroid, anti-inflammatory drug of the coxib class. Firocoxib inhibits the Cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), enzyme responsible for the production of inflammatory mediators, prostaglandins. Inflammatory mediators are responsible for the development of pain and inflammation symptoms. That way firocoxib directly stops those symptoms from appearing.
