PRODUCT INFO
Denosyl is a nutritional supplement for dogs and cats meant to support and improve liver function.

WHAT THIS PRODUCT CURES
Denosyl's active ingredient, SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) improves the antioxidative, and regenerative properties of the liver; it protects liver cells from cell death and helps in their regeneration and reparation. It also supports brain health.

PET SYMPTOMS
Denosyl (All size Dogs)

Liver is an incredibly important organ, taking the crucial part in complex processes of detoxification, digestion, blood clotting, blood sugar regulation and vitamin absorption. Liver’s functions can be compromised due to various harmful influences, such as viral and bacterial infections, parasites, ingestion of certain poisons, plants and herbs, hereditary conditions. As a result of liver damage and failure to work properly, the body becomes overloaded with toxins that cause further damage to the liver tissue and the entire body. The animal’s overall condition gradually deteriorates, and its general health will be jeopardized. Numerous diseases and conditions can stop liver from functioning properly. The initial, non-specific symptoms of liver failure that usually appear include vomiting, loss of appetite with weight loss, changes in stool appearance and weakness. In cases of advanced liver disease more specific, liver-related signs can be seen: jaundice, swollen abdomen (caused by accumulation of fluid), confusion and seizures (due to hepatic encephalopathy). Laboratory tests upon veterinary examination will show impaired liver function through increased liver enzymes.

PET AILMENTS
Numerous infectious and degenerative diseases can damage the liver tissue and impair its function, as well as various chemicals, drugs and toxins. There are certain viral, parasitic and bacterial diseases that can directly damage the liver, such as leptospirosis, heartworm infection or infectious canine hepatitis. Metastatic tumors and certain metabolic diseases such as Cushing’s syndrome or diabetes mellitus can also lead to liver deterioration. Prolonged use and/or excessive dosage of certain drugs can cause liver damage. Certain chemicals can also lead to liver toxicity, such as iron, arsenic, lead, etc. Certain plants and herbs, mushrooms and mold contaminating food can also damage the sensitive liver tissue and impair its normal functions.

RELATIVE INFO ON BREEDS MOST ASSOCIATED WITH THIS AILMENT
There are certain breeds of cats genetically predisposed to amyloidosis, degenerative disease of the liver characterized by the accumulation of proteins in liver tissue that leads to progressive damage and impaired function. Amyloidosis is frequent in Abyssinian, Burmese and Siamese cats, oriental and domestic shorthair breeds.
Certain breeds of dogs are more likely to develop liver disease than others. Among genetically predisposed breeds are Dalmatians, Dobermans, Cairn Terriers, Samoyeds and others.

QUESTIONS FOR MY VET
1.What is SAMe and how does it improve liver function of my pet?
a) SAMe is S-adenosylmethionine, a compound naturally produced by the liver. It increases the levels of glutathione, another important compound that protects liver health. Glutathione protects liver cells from cell death and damage, while helping cell regeneration and repair. SAMe levels are decreased in animals with impaired liver function, which leads to further liver damage. It is therefore important to deliver SAMe from an external source and help in natural processes of the liver reparation.
2.How does Denosyl improve my pet’s brain health?
a) SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) is naturally present in the cerebrospinal fluid of the brain. It has been suggested that decrease in its levels can lead to behavioral changes connected to pet aging. SAMe from Denosyl provides necessary source of protection and improves brain health in your pets.
3. Can my pet ingest Denosyl with food?
a) It is best to administer Denosyl tablets at least 1 hour before a meal, for the optimal absorption and maximum effect.
4. How will I know if Denosyl is helping my pet?
a) The changes will be gradual. It is important to observe your pet’s general condition; its attitude, levels of activity and changes in appetite. Your veterinarian will perform regular checkups with laboratory analyses to confirm the improvements in the liver function.
5. Are there any adverse reactions connected to administration of Denosyl?
a) Denosyl is well tolerated and fairly safe for animals; there are no known side effects connected with its administration.
6. Is it safe to give my pet methionine with Denosyl?
a) Methionine is a source of S-adenosylmethionine. It is not recommended to give methionine with Denosyl since it can lead to further liver damage. Animals wit compromised liver function will not benefit from additional methionine administration since their liver is not likely to increase the natural production of SAMe that way. Denosyl on its own is more than enough.
7. Are there interactions with other medications and supplements?
a) Denosyl should be used with caution when administered together with Tramadol, Clomipramine, fluoxetine, amitriptyline or Mitaban Dip. Consult your veterinarian if your pet is taking any of the above listed medications before administering Denosyl.

HOW IT WORKS
The main active ingredient of Denosyl, SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine), helps in the formation of glutathione. It is a compound important in the processes of detoxification, as one of the most potent natural antioxidants. The natural production of SAMe (and subsequently glutathione) is compromised in damaged liver. Denosyl provides necessary source of SAMe and ensures help in liver regeneration and reparation processes.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
To achieve optimal absorption, it is best to administer Denosyl chewable tablets on an empty stomach, at least one hour before feeding the animal. If the animal is reluctant to ingest the tablet, it can be administered with a small amount of food. Offer cats a small amount of water after administration of the Denosyl tablet, to avoid it from lingering in the esophagus and never reaching stomach.
Denosyl tablets are sensitive to moisture, and they must not be split or crumbled; the animal has to ingest whole tablets. However, Denosyl chewable tablets can be split and crumbled, which makes them easy to dose and administer.

If the animal receives more than one tablet a day, the administration can be divided into two daily doses; morning and evening.

Denosyl can be administered for shorter or longer periods of time, depending on the nature of liver pathology and patient’s general condition as well as on the level of improvement seen after the administration. It is important to make regular veterinary checkups and monitor the condition. Standard period of administration is between 1 and 4 months, but can be even longer. In case of positive response to Denosyl, a maintenance dose (administered every other day) can be introduced for an indefinite period.
