PET SYMPTOMS

There are numerous types of injuries that animals can sustain; from lacerations, bite wounds, burns, fight wounds, etc. Most of the everyday injuries are minor and not life threatening, but in certain cases serious injuries are possible as well. Fresh, uncomplicated wounds are usually swollen, can be bleeding and are usually painful. In some cases hair might be missing from the affected area, skin can be torn, cut or scraped. Animals can be limping. If the wound is not rapidly taken care of, it can become infected. Such wounds usually have pustulous discharge. If the bacteria have entered the bloodstream through the wound, the animal can become feverish and lethargic. Certain infected wounds can develop into abscesses, as a result of accumulation of pustulous material under the skin.

QUESTIONS FOR MY VET
1. How does Derma-gel work?
a) Derma-gel provides a moist environment for the wound and at the same time creates a protective film that shields the wound and prevents the bacteria to enter. In that way, it helps cleansing the dead tissue from the wound and allows natural movements of the skin.
2. On what kind of animals can Derma-gel be used?
a) Derma-gel can be safely used on all domestic animals, as well as birds and reptiles. However, before applying Derma-gel on exotic animal, consult with the vet.
3. What if the animal licks Derma-gel? Can it be harmful?
a) All ingredients of Derma-gel are safe and can bring no harm to the animal’s health in case of licking and ingestion. However, it would be better to prevent licking and preserve the protective and healing properties of the applied gel.
4. What can I expect after Derma-gel application? What changes on the skin and hair will occur?
a) Depending on the wound severity, Derma-gel will, in a certain degree, reduce scarring and improve the healing process. Wounds treated with Derma-gel heal faster, but the process primarily depends on the seriousness of injury and the amount of damaged tissue.
5. How soon will the wound heal with Derma-gel?
a) The healing process will be somewhat shortened, but the duration of the healing process primarily depends on the severity of the wound.
6. Is it absolutely unnecessary to use bandage with Derma-gel?
a) In certain cases bandages might be necessary, but Derma-gel can still be applied; it will prevent the bandage from sticking to the healing skin and causing damage to the newly grown tissue.
7. Should I do any preparations of the wound prior Derma-gel application?
a) Derma-gel can be applied directly to the wound if necessary. However, it would be beneficial to rinse the wound with sterile saline or at least with fresh water before reaching veterinary clinic.
8. On what wounds is Derma-gel used?
a) Derma-gel can be used on all kinds of wounds, from cuts, bites, scrapes, injuries with skin loss. It can even be applied on surgical wounds where suturing is not possible.

HOW IT WORKS
Derma-gel contains high molecular weight polymers that help promote wound healing. The gel provides semi-permeable dressing that provides a moist environment in which the skin can “breathe” and prevents scab formation. It also allows skin cells to migrate faster across the wound and that way promotes and accelerates the healing process. In that way, scarring and hair discoloration is successfully avoided. The protective film on the surface of the wound prevents the harmful bacteria from entering the damaged tissue and provides thermal isolation of the wound.
